Merry Christmas everyone.

I decided to be in the giving spirit today seeing as it is Christmas, and show some work. Just sketches really. A coupe of pages from my main sketchbook and a couple from my small sketchbook. I still need to pick up the pace and explore more in my opinion.

Missed Communication.

These three comic pages are another assignment from class. The premise was about a man and a woman having to meet on a street corner. Unfortunately they accidentally meet on opposite ends. The man starts to think he's been stood up. However, little does he know the very same woman he's trying to meet is across the street trying to get his attention. Unfortunately she's unsuccessful and the man leaves believing he's been stood up.

As students we had to do our best to try and illustrate this story. I didn't think I could do it in two pages, so I opted to do it in three. There are some things I don't like...some which are obvious, others more subtle...but I'm trying to get better as fast as I can so I don't have to endure these tough days for too much longer.

Alice in Wonderland cover and more!

It's been way too long since I last posted something. I really need to stop being lazy and start working harder. Even though I haven't been posting, I have at least been practicing in my defense. In any case I wanted to post a few penciled comic boards. For those of you who don't know I'm a big fan of sequential art...especially comics. If I could do that for the rest of my life and make a decent living off of it I'd be happy plain and simple. Definitely would be a dream come true.

Here are two assignments for class. The first is a penciled cover based on the theme of Alice in Wonderland. The second is a couple of pages I did that was based on a true event that actually happened in my life. I had a lot of fun doing both. Both were penciled with a lead holder and mechanical pencil with 2H lead. Then I went to photoshop and cleaned them up while darking the levels a bit. Hopefully my drawing and understanding of values gets a lot better. Because I know I really need to kick up the contrast on both, especially the party scene. I did that one a couple of months ago and now I see what he was talking about (I've also been looking at countless penciled works of professional artists). Anyways, advice is always accepted.

Here are some pages from my sketchbook. A lot of them are in Marvel style (since that is what I want to do, draw comics). Right now they are really raw. Don't really like them that much personally. I'm trying to copy a lot of diagrams from mostly John Buscema because he is my favorite artist (R.I.P). I'm going to try and increase my workload to doing sixty sketchbook pages a week. That is about nine pages a day on average. Just so I can get better faster and get over these annoying trials and tribulations.

Inkwash drawings.

Inkwash drawings on white paper. These were from last semester. I think they were about thirty minutes. Twenty minutes for the drawing and ten minutes for the inkwash technique. Don't feel that great about them, but whatever.

Charcoal penicl portrait.

Portrait that took about four or five hours. B Charcoal pencil. It was really difficult to shift values with a hard charcoal pencil on pure white paper. Wish I had more time on it. She was a good model. Kept her position really well.
