Figure painting.

A painting I did a couple of weeks back. She was a really good model to work from. Basically this piece consists mainly of various values of Burnt Umber oil paint along with some very subtle transparent colors. I was going to color in the surrounding background and areas, but I liked the way how it already looked. Overall I felt "meh" about this one. I guess it's better than when I first started the year which was my first extensive experience with painting, but...ehhh...still don't like it that much.

Some quick studies.

I've had the chance to go to a Quick Studies workshop this semester since I'm finally living in the city. It's really cool and I believe super beneficial to me since I am going down the path of illustration. I'm a big fan of speed and I want to get a lot faster. From everyone I heard that's in the same situation as me in terms of what I like and want to do, they all say go to the Quick Studies workshop. Here are some samples of what I did last night. Just a few. I'm tired of uploading every single page I did during the session on every other online venue. Here's one, two, three, and five minute samples.

Bittersweet Still Life

A still life I did. Honestly my energy towards the end of this painting dwindled, and I know I made a few huge blunders on this one. First an foremost, the most obvious is the tangent with the top of the bottle with the edge of the canvas. Big no, no. And there is still that halo effect from the initial drawing around the glass. So that's kind of annoying. I could have put more soul into this one. Better luck next time I guess.

More quick sketches and first portrait painting.

Here are some ten minute sketches I did at a workshop today. It was one of the fashion workshops at my school. I usually go to the illustration and fine arts workshops we have, but I wanted to try a workshop on Tuesday nights. Not as great as the illustration and fine arts ones, but it's good enough. Oh and another big reason I went is because all the cute girls at my schools are fashion majors haha.

This painting drove me nuts!!! I'm pretty new to painting and this was my first true portrait using oils. Took me like three weeks and seven or eight workshops just to get it to this level. Yeah I'm slow as heck. Quite frustrating, but I'm anxious to get better!!! I didn't have time to do the details in her jacket and she still looks too tan...almost sun burnt!

Sorry for the absence.

Yeah it's been a while since I posted. I've still be drawing for the most part, but I guess I've gotten kind of lazy at updating this thing. But ever since I moved into the city closer to my college I've been inspired to draw more and more...so that means more updates. Yay. For now here are a couple of sketches I did in my sketchbook. Nothing too special, but I thought I'd post them up here. One I did in blue prisma color which was the first time I used that medium to sketch extensively. It was 40 minute pose and the model was pretty good. The other one was just some random sketches on the bus and subway, but I think I'm going to try to put more and more of my sketchbook stuff on here. See how it works out.
